I’m posting the title page to illustrate my involvement in this project since coauthor Jennifer Lindsay and I were not included in the catalog or on the book cover, once Juan Williams wrote the foreword.

I researched and wrote five sections: Marengo County, James Haskins, Gee’s Bend, Gadsden, and Jerry Boogie McCain’s reminiscences of the civil rights days in Gadsden. I assisted Frye Gaillard with research and traveled with him for other sections including Huntsville, Birmingham, Muscle Shoals, the Safe House Museum in Greensboro, and Marion. My sister Ellen has a photograph in the book of the slave cemetery at Oakwood College.
